Veronica Smith-Creer
Former mayor & executive administrator
Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer has served the City of El Dorado in the position of mayor from January 2019 to December 2022. Being elected in November 2018 made her the first woman and first person of color to ever hold the position. Through the experience she also became a member of the Arkansas Black Mayor’s Association and now serves as Executive Administrator to their Executive Director.
Veronica is a 1988 graduate of El Dorado High School, and she obtained an Associate’s degree in Education from SouthArk Community College where she served as the Vice-Chair of their Board of Trustees before being elected as the Mayor. She served three consecutive terms for a total of 12 years.
Mrs. Creer has been the wife of Bobby D. Creer, Sr. for 27 years! Together they have three children, Bobby Jr., Jeremy Ryan and VaShaylia Brianne. She is the proud Mimi of Jhavon Isaiah and Skylar Brielle Creer.
She has served on or is currently serving on the following boards and committees: El Dorado Chamber of Commerce & Chamber Ambassador, Main Street El Dorado, Safe Streets of El Dorado, El Dorado Crime Stoppers, NAACP El Dorado-Union County Branch, Festivals & Events Advisory Board and the South Arkansas Children’s Coalition and FACT, Inc.
Mayor Smith-Creer started an “open door” policy during her term as Mayor. It was important for her to educate the citizens on policies and procedures to instruct them on how to get things done. She felt that it was the duty of the position to be very vocal and visible in the community. She created the Mayor’s Monday Morning Movement Moment on Facebook to educate and inform the citizens of opportunities to be involved. The El Dorado News-Times allowed her to do a column entitled Mayor’s Moment to educate its readers as well. Smith-Creer is also credited for getting the City Council Meetings back on the radio for the citizens who were not able to attend in person.
M. A. Y. O. R. Sunshine was created with the acronym standing for Making Achievements Yielding Outstanding Results initially as a city persona. Most recently it has been redirected for her platform including her books and podcast “Naturally Me”. Her website is mayor-sunshine.com and her first book is a Children’s book entitled “My Mimi is the Mayor” narrated by her granddaughter Skylar. Other books are coming, and her podcast is available on YouTube!
In all her endeavors, her constant motivation is her faith! Mayor Smith-Creer maintains that she does not believe in luck or coincidence, but believes that all things are orchestrated by God! Faith and family are her firm foundation. It has fueled the Movement, her run for Mayor and time in that position, and the Movement Continues!
